Alma is for the the quickest lap times, the steepest climbs, the strongest accelerations and the highest altitudes.
The best XC racing bike is not just light, stiff or comfortable, it's a combination of all. Alma blends these elements to maximise power transfer and speed in all conditions to make you faster.
Build using technically advanced carbon processes, the Alma M50 is super-light and super-responsive. While the XC geometry is designed for lightning speed, the complex tube shaping and Dynamic Structure enhances compliance so you don't have to sacrifice ride comfort.
Plush RockShox Judy air forks, inituitive shifting provided by a Shimano 12 speed drivetrain, and reliable stopping power thanks to Shimano hydraulic disc brakes complete the performance package.
- OMR Monocoque Carbon Frame:
Technologically advanced carbon construction is used to make sophisticated OMR frames.
Lightness: Optimised layups and fewer frame pieces reduces weight. Optimum carbon compaction allows the use of less material. Frame weight: 1100g (medium size).
Stiffness: Single uniform structures are better optimised to resist deflection. Carbon structures are tuned to deliver maximum stiffness without adding weight.
Ride quality: Running continuous fibres through and around intersections allows fine-tuning of structures for the best blend of comfort and rigidity.
Reliability: Eliminating bonded areas increases strength. The lifetime warranty assures your Orbea will be a long-time companion.
All of this produces the lightweight Alma frame that is designed to exceed your expectations.
- Dynamic Structure:
Stiffness: The large majority of torsional and lateral loads are handled by the lower spine of the frame. The headtube, downtube and chainstays resist twisting and transmit power to the rear wheel. Resistance to flex in the bottom of the frame translates directly to more watts to the wheel and a sensation that power transfer is instantaneous.
Smoothness: Studying the way the frame behaves under a rider's weight is critical to tuning the way vibrations are transmitted through the upper structure of the frame. The seat stays of the new Alma are thinner, the cross-sections and diameters reduced to provide graceful support for the seat tube and nothing more. The top tube is robust at the head tube where it contributes to torsional stiffness, but quickly tapers to eliminate unnecessary material. The natural flex patterns created by the carbon layup and minimal bulk of the top tube and seat stays deliver a dynamic, smooth ride that feels like floating over rough terrain. The sensation is subtle - but it is noticeable and can be tested. And at the end of a grueling ride it could make the difference between the podium and the consolation prize.
- XC Geometry: Alma's World Cup Geometry is born from years of designing world-class XC bikes. The position is aggressive, comfortable and fast. Unlike trail geometry that sacrifices some precison for endurance, XC geometry is precise and intuitive for maximum power transfer. Angles and dimensions are considered carefully across a range of sizes, maximising power by increasing efficiency.
- Boost: Wider hub spacing alters the angle of the spokes, creating stiffer, stronger wheels. It also allows for wider tyres and shorter chainstays, thus increasing handling agility, grip and fun!
